Brother, sister —
My high school defensive coordinator drilled one truth into me as a linebacker: “If you’re chasing the ball carrier, you have already failed at your position.”
It was not my job to pursue. It was my job to be where the ball carrier was going to be before he got there. That meant understanding everyone else’s assignment so I could anticipate the play and get there first.
Business works exactly the same way.
Chasing numbers — especially profit — is exhausting and inefficient. It takes ten times the energy, time, and effort to play defense in reactive mode. You’re always running after what already happened instead of positioning the company to produce the right outcomes before the play even develops.
Profit is a lagging indicator. It is the body count after the battle.
What we must ruthlessly pursue is production — the leading indicator. The real measure of stewardship. The multiplier that determines whether your company thrives or continues leaving 15–25% (and often 20–35% in construction and oil & gas) of revenue on the table through hidden inefficiencies, drama, rework, procrastination, unnecessary chatting, and “figure it out” heroics.
And right now, the bankers and commercial lenders I speak with weekly are seeing the same three painful realities:
- Businesses know the onshoring wave is coming and they need to be ready.

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ… so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro… when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”
This blueprint works with explosive power in business.

- Prophet (Visionary) — Sees what others cannot. Brings bold direction, innovation, and alignment to the big picture.

What Ruthless Production Alignment Actually Produces
- Problems get IDS’d (Identified, Discussed, Solved) faster.
- Barriers are overcome quicker.
- Wasted time — social media scrolling, unnecessary chatting across the office, procrastination, and extended “smoke” breaks — shrinks dramatically.
- Drama drops. Rework drops. Hidden inefficiencies get exposed and eliminated.
- Loyal long-timers regain dignity, clearer roles, and restored respect instead of being burned out carrying the weight of misaligned teammates.
- Each part works properly. The whole body builds itself up in love and order.
Maturity replaces childishness. The company stops being tossed to and fro by every inefficiency and market wind.
This is ruthless stewardship in action. This is how you recover the massive lost production sitting on the table and position your leveraged business to thrive in the onshoring economy.
