How to Implement the Five-Fold Ministry in Your Business This Quarter

Craig had run his company for 23 years. There had been good years and difficult years, but lately he was exhausted. He had attempted to transition the company multiple times, but nothing worked. The business was surviving, yet Craig felt stuck.

Why Most Christian Businesses Struggle with Alignment

Most owners build their org chart around functions first, then try to find a good, hardworking person to fill each seat. This approach feels responsible, but it ignores a critical truth found in Scripture.

In Ephesians 4:11-13, the Apostle Paul writes that Christ Himself gave the church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”

Verse 16 adds that when each part is working properly, the whole body “grows and builds itself up in love.”

When the parts are misaligned, the opposite occurs. The body becomes unstable, immature, and ineffective. The same principle applies in business. When you place an Evangelist in a detail-oriented administrative role or a Pastor in a high-conflict operations seat, you are asking them to operate against the wiring God gave them. Over time, this creates friction that training and good intentions cannot fully overcome.

How to Implement Five-Fold Alignment in Your Company

Here is a clear, repeatable process you can begin this quarter:

1. Start with the Org Chart

Stop building your org chart around functions only. Build it around the type of person each seat requires. Ask: “What kind of wiring does this role actually demand to be done with excellence?”

2. Write Position Descriptions by TYPE

For every key role, define not just the responsibilities, but the type of person who will thrive in that seat. Be honest about what the role truly requires.

3. Assess the People You Currently Have

  • Retention improves because people feel seen and placed according to how God made them.
