Brother, sister —
As leaders, we have been trained our entire lives to pursue the kind of people we need.
We chase the resume. We chase the experience. We chase the credentials, the skills, the personality profile that looks like it will “fit.”
But far too few of us have been trained to pursue the type of people God actually designed for the work.
We hire a sharp operations manager because he looks like the kind we need — only to discover he’s wired as a Pastor who hates confrontation and process enforcement. We bring in a gifted salesperson because she’s the kind that can close — only to watch her wither when stuck in rigid administrative seats she was never created for.
The result is the same story I see in company after company: frustration, drama, quiet resentment, heroics, and a People Rheostat that stays stuck far too low.
God never left us to guess at this.
In Ephesians 4:11–13 He gave us the exact blueprint for equipping people, building healthy teams, and multiplying Kingdom impact:
“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”
This passage is not limited to Sunday morning. This is God’s operating system for any organization that wants to run in Divine Order — especially the businesses and ministries He has entrusted to His sons and daughters.
The Five Types God Designed for Your Business
Here is how the Five-Fold gifts show up powerfully in the marketplace:
The Prophet (Visionary) Sees what others cannot. Spots opportunities and dangers months or years ahead. Brings bold direction, innovation, and alignment to the big picture. They thrive when creating, dreaming, and calling the company forward.
The Apostle (Integrator / Builder) The master builder of systems and structure. Turns prophetic vision into executable reality. Loves creating order, accountability, Management Operating Systems, Rocks, and repeatable processes. They make sure things actually get finished.
The Evangelist (Growth Engine) The proclaimer. Naturally wins hearts, customers, and talent. Creates momentum, casts vision externally, and expands reach.
The Pastor (People Shepherd) The caretaker of the flock. Excels at building healthy culture, resolving conflict, nurturing people, and maintaining relational and spiritual health.
The Teacher (Equipper / Master / Technician) The one who masters knowledge and transfers it enhancing production. Documents processes, builds training systems, ensures consistency, and turns tribal knowledge into organizational strength.
When we finally stop hiring and placing people based only on kind (what they can do) and begin stewarding them according to type (who God made them to be), the entire company begins to breathe differently.
What Happens When the Five-Fold Aligns
The owner carrying strong Prophet wiring stops trying to also play Apostle — and real systems finally get built. The Apostle stops suffering under constant vision changes and gets to build the Operating Compass that brings Divine Order. The Pastor is released to care for people instead of being forced into operations where they slowly die. The Teacher builds the Knowledge Center and training systems that eliminate “figure it out” culture. The Evangelist drives growth without being buried in administrative details they were never wired to carry.
The People Rheostat climbs — sometimes dramatically. Drama collapses. Rework drops. The Operating Compass stabilizes. The Leadership / Cultural Compass shifts from lone-ranger survival to true multiplication.
This is ruthless stewardship in action.
The Cost of Ignoring God’s Design
Most Christian businesses today still run on grit, prayer, and heroics. The owner becomes the central nervous system. Everything flows through one person. When that person steps away — even for a Sabbath — the business stalls or crashes.
We call it “being faithful.” God calls it poor stewardship.
I’ve walked into $15M, $22M, and $35M Christian-owned companies where the Moral Compass was strong on Sunday, but Monday through Friday it was pure adrenaline addiction and “figure it out” culture. Loyal Long-Timers were exhausted. The owner’s wife and adult children (the Children) were watching the weight crush the family. The business looked busy but was incredibly fragile.
Tolerating wrong seats isn’t grace. It is legacy theft.
The Fruit of Alignment
When the Five-Fold is honored and people are placed in right seats:
- Loyal team members regain dignity, clarity, and joy in their work.
- The owner finally gets to work on the business instead of living in constant rescue mode.
- Real Sabbath returns.
- Multiplication becomes possible — not just growth, but Kingdom multiplication.
- The next generation actually wants to step into the company instead of running from it.
This is the difference between building a job that owns you and building a ministry that advances the Kingdom.
This is exactly what Basic Biblical Business Solutions (B3S) was created to deliver.
