Brother, sister — same table. Coffee is still cold.
I am not going to teach you a fifth thing.
Three weeks ago I told you to count the flock. Two weeks ago I told you why a man who already knows that still will not look. Last week I put the gauges in front of you. This week I told you a number with no Rock is just shame.
If you heard it, you do not need me to build you another system before Sunday.
You need to open the same board next Tuesday and read the number out loud.
That is the article. The rest is me sitting here so you do not wriggle out of it.
Listen to me on this
I watch owners treat the first of the month like a baptism.
New theme. New list. Clean whiteboard. A Monday meeting where everybody nods. Then Tuesday shows up and it is the same company, the same fires, the same two people saving the day.
October will not save you if you will not run a Tuesday.
I keep saying Tuesday and I want you to hear why. Monday is still recovery. Monday is meetings. Monday is “we will get to it.” Tuesday is the first ordinary day. Nobody is launching anything. If the Rock does not have a name, a date, and a number by then, you did not have a plan. You had a speech.
Proverbs 21:5. The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness. The hasty only to want.
Hasty is a new framework every thirty days so you can feel serious. Diligent is the same board, read again, when the room is boring.
And Galatians 6:9. Do not get weary in well doing. You will reap if you do not faint.
Most men do not faint in a collapse. They faint quieter than that. They measure once. The number embarrasses them. They go back to heroics because heroics feel like work. Looking again is the well doing. The harvest is later. The look is this week.
Here is the habit, and it is smaller than you want
Last week I told you what a Rock is. An action that actually moves the business. The right kind of person on it. The rest of the body helping. Written plain. Broken into pieces you can count — .25, .5, .75, 1.0. A meeting that reads the number and will not let you say “on track.”
Forget the speech for a minute. The habit is this.
Same Rock.
Same owner.
Same date.
You open the board.
You read the number.
If it did not move, you say what is in the way.
You do not rename the Rock because the old one made you look bad.
You do not add another one because the list felt thin.
You do not start October with a new chart so you can feel faithful without admitting you are still sitting at .5.
Luke 16:10. Faithful in what is least, faithful also in much.
Least is one number, read on a normal Tuesday, with the same people in the room. Much is a company you could hand to somebody else. You do not get to much by skipping least.
You will know September stuck
Not because we printed a nicer slogan.
You will know it stuck if November still looks like this.
You counted the flock again. Not “I remember what it was.” You counted it.
One Rock still has a name on it, and the number moved — or you wrote stalled and you meant it. A stall is allowed. A story is not.
The meeting did not go around the table collecting yeses. Somebody read .25, or .5, or .75, or done.
That is the lock. Not a binder. Not a rebrand.
October is called Faith-Driven Traction. Before somebody tries to sell you a retreat, hear what I mean by it.
It is Colossians 3:23 on a calendar. You work as unto the Lord on a Wednesday when nothing special is happening. It is not a conference. It is not a fresh operating system. It is the same Rock, run again, because the Lord is not impressed that you learned a new word.
If October starts with a new idea, September was entertainment. I will say that plain.
Do not get cute at the end of the month
I have watched this more times than I want to tell you.
The owner finally looks. The number is ugly. He feels it in his chest. Then he does the thing that feels like repentance and is actually running. New software. A new chart. Five new Rocks. A Saturday meeting so the whole company can see he is serious.
Brother, that is pride putting the pads back on. I already told you that. I am telling you again because the last week of the month is when we do it.
Serious is smaller than that.
One owner. One date. One number that means done. You look at it next Tuesday.
If the work needs somebody in another department and that person is out, the Rock is stalled. Write stalled. Do not say fine. If nobody clears it, that piece sits at .5 until the quarter dies and everybody acts surprised. You already know this. The habit is telling the truth instead of protecting the mood.
And Habakkuk 2:2 is still the line. Write it plain enough that the person who reads it can run. If they have to call you to know whether they are winning, you did not build a habit. You just gave your heroics a cleaner name.
What you actually need
You do not need another line on the wall.
You do not need October to forgive September.
You need the condition of this flock, this week.
You need the one Rock you already named, still sitting on the board where you can see it.
You need somebody to read the number out loud.
You need the barrier named if the number did not move.
That is coming like a child. Humble enough to repeat a small obedience. Not childish enough to demand a new system because the old count embarrassed you.
If you have not taken the Diagnostic, take it. It does not expire because the month did. Honest questions. A Chaos Score. A straight look at what the bleed is costing.
If you already took it and then did nothing, do not take it again so you can feel busy. Open the number you already have. Put one Rock on it.
The book is what you train with after you know where you stand. It is not a way around next Tuesday.
If you are the wife, the husband, the grown child, the friend who has been praying over this company — you do not have to install October at the dinner table. Ask what the number was last Tuesday. Ask if it moved. Ask who is blocking the next step. Then be quiet. That is enough for today.
What it looks like when this actually takes
The fires do not go out because September ended. I will not lie to you about that.
What changes is smaller, and it is enough to start.
The owner stops using a new month as a place to hide.
The person holding the meeting stops collecting yeses and starts clearing what is stuck.
The people who have been there a long time get the same standard two weeks in a row. That is how their dignity comes back. Not a speech. The same standard.
The family gets a person whose seriousness shows up on a Tuesday, not in a Saturday rescue.
Cash gets looked at again. The Rock keeps its name. The pieces get counted. The week tells the truth twice.
Inside of the cup first. The outside starts telling the truth after you repeat the count. Not after you rename the theme.
This month was the scale.
Next month is the same scale, on a calendar.
Write down the one number you already know is off. Write the one action that would move it. Put a name on it. Put a date on it. Read it next Tuesday. If it is still half done, write stalled. Do not say on track. Do not wait for October to make you diligent.
The pretending can stop.
Complete restoration starts when you can see — and then you look again.
See you on the inside.
Let the deed shaw.
